Dorothy Badry, PhD, MSW, RSW is a professor in the Faculty of Social Work, University of Calgary. Her research focus is on FASD, child welfare, complex disability and child mental health, women’s health and FASD prevention, housing and homelessness, advancing knowledge and training on FASD, loss and grief, and more recently FASD and suicide. Dorothy worked in child protection for 16 years in Alberta and continues to deeply care about child welfare issues and those involved on the edges of society and systems. She co-chaired the national conference: The Future of Child Welfare held in Calgary in 2018 in partnership with the Prairie Child Welfare Consortium (PCWC); Provincial and Territorial Directors of Child Welfare and the Faculty of Social Work, University of Calgary. Dorothy has been Child Welfare Research Lead since 2017 with the Canada FASD Research Network. She has received numerous research grants from provincial and national funders including PolicyWise, the Public Health Agency of Canada, the First Nations & Inuit Health Branch of Canada and SSSHRC. Dorothy has an active research agenda and has been working closely with colleagues in Australia in collaboration with the CanFASD Research Network where she is the child welfare research lead. Dorothy served as the co-chair of the Persons with Developmental Disabilities Review in 2019 for the Government of Alberta.
