Students compete in MacIntyre Cup Trial Competition
On February 5-6, two UCalgary Law teams competed in the Western Canada MacIntyre Cup Trial Competition at the Calgary Courts Centre. Team member Caroline Law shared her experience about the event:
"The MacIntyre Cup was a fun and intense experience! We have been practising for this moot since October, so our team had put a lot of efforts into the moot. At the end of it, we all feel great about becoming a better advocate.
The MacIntyre Cup is one of the very few moots that provides the opportunity for us to practise examination in-chiefs and cross examinations. The entire trial was 3 and a half hours. The unpredictability of what a witness would say in court, or the objection from the opposing team, simulate a real trial which makes it so much more interesting.
The help we received from the faculty, our moot coaches from the Crown's office and the Calgary defence bar had been phenomenal. Lots of volunteers sacrificed their free time to be our coaches, judges and witnesses."
Great work to all of the UCalgary Law students who participated, including 2Ls Elliot Holzman and Kiran Fatima (researcher), and 3Ls Melissa Kostiuk, Caroline Law and Camille Sehn. Thank you to our coaches Tara Wells and Andrew Bard, and our assistant coaches Ben Leung and Curtis Mennie, as well as our student volunteers Amanda Danyluk, Alexander Brooker and Christina Hodgson.
