Social Work students at our University of Calgary, Calgary campus location

Calgary Campus Information

Oki, Tânisi, Tawnshi, Âba wathtec, Danit'ada, Aaniin, Kwe’, She:kon, Bonjour, Hello:

Welcome to the Kiipitakoyis Grandmother's Lodge (The Indigenous Social Work Circle and Lodge, in the Faculty of Social Work). The Faculty of Social Work’s Lodge is led by Metis/Cree Elder Kerrie Moore, Director Natalie St-Denis (Acadian/Mi’kmaq and Quebecois/Algonquin) and Advisor Deandra Neufeld (Mohawk).

The Lodge seeks to enhance the learning journey of Indigenous social work students by providing Elder and counselling supports, ceremonies and cultural activities. Our hope is to create a sense of belonging and community – a family away from home for Indigenous students. The Kiipitoyis is also committed to providing many learning opportunities for all faculty, staff and students about Indigenous histories, cultures, current realities, languages, knowledges and teachings. We seek to create decolonizing spaces that align with the University’s ii’ taa’poh’to’p principles that honour Indigenous ways of knowing, being, doing and connecting.

We welcome all students, staff and faculty into the Lodge for a place to study, learn, engage in ceremony, develop meaningful relationships and to build community together.

We are location on the third floor of the MacKimmie Tower and offer a welcoming, earth-based Lodge and ceremonial space.

The University of Calgary has outstanding health and fitness facilities available to on-campus students. Facilities include fitness, weights and aerobic equipment, running tracks, racket courts, climbing and bouldering walls, an Olympic-size swimming pool and access to running and skating at the Olympic Oval. Active Living also has the largest outdoor centre located on a university campus. From the Outdoor Centre you can take outdoor programs and rent camping gear, rafts, canoes, mountain bikes etc. etc.

Main reception and student advisors are located on the third floor of the MacKimmie Tower. Most faculty members and research assistant spaces are located on the fourth floor.

Over 5,000 lockers are available throughout the UCalgary campus, through the Students Union. Lockers are given out on a first-come-first-served basis, beginning on August 1. Demand is very high, so it's good to get there early.

The Wellness centre is UCalgary's on-campus health and wellness centre, with a wide range of service options. Visit them for medical and mental health care, and nutrition, chiropractic and massage appointments with their team of professionals.

  1. Medical services: Medical care and procedures by appointment or walk-in. Featuring a team of physicians, nurses, behavioural health consultants and a psychiatrist on site to provide you with comprehensive care.

  2. Mental health services: If you’re dealing with stress and anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief, or simply think you could feel better, make an intake appointment today. During your first appointment, a support advisor will help you set goals and choose the right services for you.
