I feel like I'm so much closer with my online cohort compared to my previous degree at McGill which was in person, every day. It's strange, but it's such an amazing feeling. It's on a different level. I don't even know how to explain why I feel like we built such relationships with each other. Relationships that I think we'll carry on forever.

Core courses in the BSW program cover topics such as theory and practice in an interconnected world; research; mental health; Indigenous peoples' histories, cultures, & healing practices; green and sustainable social work; and africentric social work practice.
Field education remains at the heart of social work education, and your practicum will typically be completed in-person.
- Starting in your first semester, you'll complete 300-hour of learning through community service and social justice initiatives.
- You'll also complete a 400-hour practicum in the winter term of your final year often scheduled weekdays during business hours, 4 full days/week.
- Our field education team is dedicated to supporting you through your practicum journey.
- Learn more about Field Education in the BSW.
Through social work option courses, you may study topics such as:
- addictions and recovery, human sexuality, gerontology, intimate partner violence, loss and grief, mental health and trauma, social work in health care or child welfare settings, and social work with immigrants and refugees.
Non-social work courses are general arts (e.g., psychology, sociology) or science (e.g. statistics) courses at the junior or senior level.
For those admitted to the BSW without prior formal social work education, SOWK 201 is a program requirement. We recommend completing it before or during the application cycle.

Small-school feeling. Big-university degree.
Social work classes are typically under 40 students, even online.
No matter which BSW program you choose, you can get to know your peers and instructors in intimate classes.
(Non-social work class sizes may vary.)
