Anti-Black Racism Task Force Art Competition

Call for Submissions

In celebration of Black History Month, the Anti-Black Racism Task Force is seeking submissions from local Black artists across Alberta. Submissions should depict or represent Black culture, life, beauty, excellence, struggles or resistance, and include paintings, photography, digital artwork, drawings, sculptures, and poetry/spoken word. All pieces submitted must be original, created by the artist and not previously submitted elsewhere. Selected pieces will be posted online; three art pieces will be displayed across our three regions (Calgary, Edmonton, and Lethbridge).  


The Faculty of Social Work’s Anti-Black Racism Task Force will determine the winners through a panel composed of students, staff, and faculty members. The winner’s art piece will be featured on the Black History Month Virtual Art Gallery, the Website and Newsletter for the Faculty of Social Work. Three prizes ($250, $350, and $450) will be awarded to finalists.  


Deadline to receive entries is March 1, 2022.

Media Consent

I give consent to the Faculty of Social Work to post and distribute my full name and any photographs and/or artwork or written submissions produced for the purpose of publicizing and promoting Black History Month and the virtual gallery. I further waive any claim, which I may have against the Faculty of Social Work arising from the use of such photographs, and/or artwork/ written materials as foresaid. I understand that it is my responsibility to notify the faculty if the status of this consent changes.

Confidentiality Concerns

I have read and agree to all terms and conditions set forth in the 2022 Anti-Black Racism Task Force Art Competition/Release Waiver and Entry Form. I understand and consent to the implications of this waiver. I further agree that this is made of my own free will and without duress.
