Program

Calgary, Edmonton, and Lethbridge

You will finish in 2 years if you follow the curriculum plan and take the maximum number of courses available each term.

If you finish all of your required courses by the end of the winter term of your 4th year, you will be eligible to graduate in June.

You have a maximum of 5 years to complete your degree.

Virtual Learning Circle

You will finish in 2½ years if you follow the curriculum plan and take the maximum number of courses available each semester.

You will need to take courses in the spring and summer term between your 3rd and 4th year and complete your practicum(a) in the spring and summer of your 4th year.

If you finish all of your required courses by the end of the spring/summer term of your 4th year, you will be eligible to graduate in November.

You have a maximum of 5 years to complete your degree.

You must submit your request for advanced credit when you apply by contacting our student advisors. You will not be given advanced credit for social work courses unless there is social work-specific content in that course.

Application & Admission

There is no set number of hours of volunteer or work experience that you need to have, but include all volunteer or work experience that you consider to be relevant.

It is helpful to separate work from volunteer experience in your resume and to provide an indication of the extent of the experience by stating whether you were employed full-time or part-time, and for how many hours in total.

Volunteer or work experience can be from many years ago, it does not only have to be recent experiences.

No. You can only choose one location.

You will never be required to travel to another location unless you choose to take social work options there. You are only permitted to take social work options at other locations; core courses must be completed at your home location.

Yes, you have to upload your supporting documents each time you apply. We recommend that you save a copy of your resume and essay for future use.

Transcripts:
The Admissions Office will keep transcripts on file for a limited amount of time. Confirm with them if they have your most recent transcripts. If you have taken further courses since submitting your transcripts, arrange to send new transcripts to the Admissions Office.

Our goal is to submit all recommendations to the Admissions Office by late May or early June.

Check your status in your Student Centre and monitor your emails for updates.

No, offers of admission are valid for the term to which you apply. You will need to re-apply next year.

Your referee may have “saved” the reference instead of “submitting” it. Your referee must go back and submit the online form before the deadline.

Once the reference has been submitted, both you and your referee will receive an email from our system confirming receipt. Your 'To Do List' will automatically update too.

Yes. It is your responsibility to ensure that all required supporting documents are received by the stated deadlines, including references.

Follow up with your referee if you notice that they have not submitted their reference. Missing documents will result in an incomplete application.
