Planning for your campus visit

Whether you live in Edmonton or are coming from across the country, the Faculty of Social Work looks forward to welcoming you to your on-campus residency. Here are some tips and resources to help you prepare.

Edmonton Campus

Our Edmonton campus is located on the third floor of Enterprise Square at 10230 Jasper Avenue.

Getting around Edmonton

On the Edmonton Transit website, you'll find up to date information on public transportation service in Edmonton, including bus and train routes, fare prices, detours and stop closures. There is a LRT station conveniently located right on campus, and many bus routes stop here as well.

Edmonton Transit's Dedicated Accessible Transit Service provides specialized transit service for people with disabilities who can’t use regular transit services.

There are also several taxi services available in the city:
•    Co-op Taxi: 780-425-2525
•    Yellow Cabs: 780-462-3456

Computers and internet access

You will be expected to complete some assignments while in Edmonton, so make sure you bring your laptop and charger with you. You can plug in and use your laptop in the Social Work Student Lounge, located on the 3rd Floor in 3-290.

While on-site in Edmonton, if needed, you will be able to access computers in the Computer Lab area (3-289).

In order to make use of the wireless network and virtual desktops on campus, you will need your UCalgary IT username and password.

Building Access Card

Upon arrival, you'll receive an access card which will allow access to the 3rd floor, to washrooms, and to the classroom areas. You may access these spaces as you wish but cannot leave doors propped open as this could result in unauthorized access.

You are responsible for the use of the access card and may not loan or give your card to anyone else for any purpose. Cards should be returned to the front office once you have completed your degree requirements, or if you take a leave from your studies.

If you lose your card, you must report this as soon as possible. A replacement fee of $10 may be charged for lost/unreturned cards.

Accommodation

You will be responsible for arranging your own accommodation.

Parking

If you plan to drive, there are various paid parking lots available to you. Familiarize yourself with a map of downtown Edmonton.

Places to eat

There are a wide variety of restaurants and cafes on Jasper Avenue. We are also connected by pedways to Commerce Place and Edmonton City Centre mall, both have food courts.

If you prefer to purchase groceries, there is a Loblaw City Market near your campus.
